Jaguar and Land Rover:  National Sponsors for GLAAD

Witeck-Combs Communications worked with Jaguar and Land Rover, both Ford Motor Company brands, to integrate a diversity marketing strategy into their existing marketing plans. As part of this strategy, both Jaguar and Land Rover are national sponsors for GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).  As part of this sponsorship, Witeck Combs established a purchase promotion initiative - bringing GLAAD up to $1,000 each for the purchase or lease of many Jaguar and Land Rover models.   In addition, GLAAD's Summer Parties and Media Awards showcased both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles, highlighting each brand's generous support for the GLBT community and the popular purchase promotion.

Volvo Sponsors 8th Annual HRC  National Dinner

Ford Motor Company and Volvo Cars of North America work closely with Witeck-Combs Communications to polish their integrated marketing and advertising strategy aimed at gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) consumers.

Among its most successful cause-related channels is Volvo's year-round partnership with the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest membership organization of gay Americans.  To underscore Volvo's commitment to diversity and inclusion, Volvo proudly sponsors black tie dinners and served as Presenting Sponsor for the HRC National Dinner in Washington DC.  At this year's HRC National Dinner, Volvo celebrated by raffling off a 2005 XC90 (pictured at right), and displayed the highly prized Volvo C70 Convertible and the all-new Volvo S40.

Tour de Friends Comes to An End 

Hundreds of riders, Tour Corps (event volunteers) and supporters celebrate as Tour de Friends, a fundraising bike ride with proceeds going to HIV/AIDS organizations, comes to end.  The crowd welcomed riders and Corps after their four-day 330-mile journey from Raleigh, NC to Washington, DC, and they all witnessed a moving ceremony dedicated to friends and family living with and lost to HIV/AIDS.

Craig Shniderman, Rider # 1 and Executive Director of Food & Friends is interviewed by NBC4 anchor, Joe Krebs at the closing ceremonies of the first-ever Tour de Friends, a fundraising bike ride with proceeds benefiting HIV/AIDS.  Joe Krebs participated in Tour de Friends as a rider with his NBC4 colleague Steve Handelsman.  The 330-mile four-day bike ride began June 19 in Raleigh, NC and ended June 22 in Washington, DC.

Tour de Friends Riders Interviewed in the North Carolina Countryside

Reporter Nick Smith, from Raleigh's ABC11, interviews Tour de Friends riders in the North Carolina countryside.  Three riders in Wakefield, NC share their stories with Smith, as ABC11's viewers were eager to learn more about why participants decided to ride.  On June 19, nearly 1000 riders and Tour corps (event volunteers) set off from the North Carolina State Fairgrounds and began a 330-mile four-day journey to Washington, DC.

Christopher Reeve Asks Congress for New Funding for People with Disabilities

On May 7th, 2003, actor, director and activist Christopher Reeve, Congressmen Michael Bilirakis (R-FL) and Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA), NIH Director Dr. Elias Zerhouni, and Congressman James Langevin (D-RI) gathered together to announce the introduction of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Act of 2003 at a Capitol Hill news conference. The press conference, covered by CNN, the Associated Press, Reuters, ABC Radio, Roll Call and other media was organized on behalf of the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation and the bill sponsors by Witeck-Combs Communications.

Jaguar Sponsors Human Rights Campaign New York Dinner and Hosts Federal Club Brunch

Witeck-Combs Communications worked with Jaguar and the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian and gay political organization, to build brand awareness and consideration in New York through sponsorship of HRC's black-tie gala and Federal Club/Capital Campaign Brunch. Jaguar displayed the AWD X-Type along with the refined new XJ, which will re-launch the brand in the Spring 2003.

Thanksgiving at Food & Friends

On November 28, 2002, hundreds of volunteers joined Food & Friends to prepare and deliver nearly 3,000 Thanksgiving meals to people living with HIV/AIDS, Cancer and their families.  Staff and volunteers worked together to prepare over 6,500 pounds of turkey, 825 pounds of stuffing, 900 pounds of mashed potatoes and over 2,000 dinner rolls to be delivered on Thanksgiving Day.  Witeck-Combs Communications assisted Food & Friends with media outreach for their Thanksgiving events.  Thanksgiving 2002 was one of the most successful years at Food & Friends, as Witeck-Combs helped garner a number of local and national print, television, and radio media outlets.

Food & Friends Breaks Ground for New Facility in Northeast Washington

On October 8, 2002, Food and Friends staff, board and supporters were joined by federal and city officials in a ceremonial dig at the groundbreaking of the organization's new facility.  The new facility will create a permanent home for the nonprofit to provide meals, groceries, and nutrition services to people living with HIV/AIDS, breast cancer, and other life-challenging illnesses.  The new facility is expected to open in Fall 2003.

AIDS Action Introduces National Call to Action at Barcelona International AIDS Conference

Witeck-Combs Communications was tapped by Washington-based AIDS Action to coordinate the organizations presence at the XIV International AIDS Conference in Barcelona, Spain in July 2002.  On AIDS Action's behalf, Witeck-Combs team developed a panel discussion on the United States' HIV/AIDS agenda and policies - a series of panels that included 15 HIV/AIDS leaders.  The session was standing room-only and web cast by the Kaiser Family Foundation.

Sir Elton John Comes to Washington

Before making his first-ever appearance on Capitol Hill in April 2002 to testify before Congress, Sir Elton John is accompanied by Sandy Thurman, head of the International AIDS Trust, as well as Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY).  Witeck-Combs Communications worked closely with the Elton John AIDS Foundation to make this historic visit a success.

Sir Elton John and Sandy Thurman Testify for Global AIDS Funds

On behalf of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, Witeck-Combs Communications helped coordinate and publicize Sir Elton John's Congressional testimony in support of increased U.S. funding to defeat global HIV/AIDS.  Testifying before the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions in April 2002, Sir Elton John was joined by his colleague and ally, Sandy Thurman, President of the International AIDS Trust.

Christopher Reeve Testifies for Therapeutic Cloning

On behalf of the Coalition for the Advancement of Medical Research, Witeck-Combs Communications helped coordinate and publicize Christopher Reeve's testimony in support of therapeutic cloning and a press conference involving Reeve and influential members of Congress. Speaking to the press about the medical benefits of therapeutic cloning for those who are paralyzed or suffer from a variety of other disabilities, on March 5, 2002, Reeve was joined by Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA), Arlen Specter (R-PA), Diane Feinstein (D-CA), and others.

Witeck-Combs Communications worked with Ford Motor Company and Volvo Cars North America to launch an integrated marketing and advertising campaign to specifically reach gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) consumers, as part of its comprehensive diversity marketing strategy. The campaign, which recognizes that GLBT households are as diverse as the family of vehicles offered by Volvo, is intended to build a stronger connection between GLBT consumers and the Volvo brand.
